Theresa May gets rough reception at Police Federation conference

The BBC's James Landale talks to the Home Secretary about her policy on policing:

The Sun backs Mrs May against the Federation:

"Hysteria got the better of the Police Federation — the bobbies’ union — when it demanded Home Secretary Theresa May’s resignation. She was rudely heckled and called corrupt as she addressed the Federation conference. Why? For daring to suggest police might join the rest of Britain’s workers in the 21st century by scrapping outdated working practices."

As does The Telegraph:

"By acting like the trade union militants (not least by choosing to march last week on the same day as a national strike), the police have undermined their non-partisan status and their claim for special treatment. What really gives the game away, as with the medical professions, is the issue about which the federation is most vocal: the impact of reform not on front-line policing but on its members’ pay and perks."

....And The Express:

"Yesterday Theresa May was a Home Secretary telling home truths. She was never going to be popular but that does not make her wrong. The Police Federation conference only made her a villain because it has become a pantomime."
