It's no surprise really. He'd be mistaken if he thought it would help his cause - the GOP might have respect for his strength of belief and integrety, but in reality, he is still a liberal left winger on most issues.

Joe Lieberman would be a possible candidate for Vice President I would have thought, someone who has been a Democrat Vice Presidential candidate who has since been standing as an Independent, but who could still help placate a hostile Congress.
