« BBC News: Margaret Thatcher resigns | Main | Remembering John Major »

Well, it's hard to say he wasn't right, isn't it?

And haven't we learnt that the hard way in Iraq again?

He was wrong to frame it as a racial matter, really: but democracy certainly requires a cultural and legal grounding that clearly did not exist in the hearts or brains of those singing and clapping militias and guerillas.

Mugabe, as the Spectator recently noted, has racked up Stalin-esque death counts, mostly blacks dying of famine. He has wrought horrors and barbarisms upon Rhodesian blacks that Smith would never have dreamt of; indeed would have fought to oppose, as he did in WWII.

Another example of Thatcher being a bit of a twat, really.
