Asked about the introduction of higher council tax bands or a mansion tax, the Mayor says he obviously doesn't want anything that might disproportionately harm London but says three things should be the Chancellor's Budget priorities:
More investment in infrastructure;
A National Insurance holiday to help job creation;
Ending the "scandal" of those who aboid stamp duty on house sales.
Over the long term he says Britain cannot afford the 50p tax rate, which makes London and the UK uncompetitive, but Boris Johnson appears to concede it cannot be scrapped immediately. A YouGov poll today found that ten times as many voters want a reduction in petrol duty as want the 50p tax band eliminated.
In his interview with Andrew Marr, Boris Johnson also backed the Coalition's work experience programme.
