The Great Procrastinator.

President Obama, who is a good communicator with an academic, Socratic approach to policy-making will have had no lack of conflicting advice during this chain of events. He has a constituency in the US that is unlikely to be of the sort that will be keen to see that country committed to yet another overseas venture while that in Afghanistan remains unresolved. Until now we have not seen him really tested in an international context that has arisen since he came to office; so there is no opportunity for shifting the blame to his predecessor`s administration.
President Obama has shown great caution and given every indication that he tends towards isolationism in the field of international events; the classic Democrat approach exhibited for so long at the beginning of WW2. His international allies will need to tread carefully now if they do not want to drive him into the arms of those who espouse the concept of olympian detachment which the US might so easily adopt. We continue to need ther involvement in my opinion and we should be careful not to lose it by neglect or hubris on our part.
