Who is more to be blamed when seasoned politicians accept instructions from their leader to avoid debate on a major, perhaps the major, issue of the century.

Two Tory MEPs chose not to attend the Bruges Group fringe meeting on pain of deselection, one understands. Who is the worse offender against democracy - the leader of the MEPs?

And if the Conservative Party supports the armed forces in their campaign in Afganistan "one hundred percent", please can the Tory leadership please tell us what is that objective in terms that enable us to determine success or failure, progress or setback. HMG have not defined the role so how can the Tories?
