"What do the Tories need to do to satisfy Michael Portillo?"
Stop slagging him off, perhaps? Or stop the 80s-worship and work with the liberal society of the 21st Century?

It is not a few failed politicians who will bring the Conservatives into power or stop them, it is the wisdom of the masses.
Nobody regards Portillo seriously anymore and his platform for criticism is severely limited. He had his chances and he flunked them.

What do the Tories need to do to satisfy Michael Prtillo ?
You'll never satisfy him, so I wouldn't bother worrying about it. The public out there certainly don't.

I wonder if he has half a point. All other things remaining equal at a general election the Labour vote is likely to turn out, however grudgingly. That could easily knock enough off our % lead to produce a less than satisfactorary result. I.e. we would need to be doing better before the GE in order to get a good result.

Nothing will satisfy Portillo short of the party crawling to him on both knees begging him to leads us back to electoral success, such as achieving 44% of the national vote at the local elections............... DOH!
Forget him, he is yesterday's man and the chip on his shoulder is bigger than Leavingsoon's ego.
