What cant! If an individual is innocent until proven guilty, so is a business. The Telegraph, the Mail, the Express, the Sun make conservative political success possible in this country. The press as a whole make democracy and freedom possible -- and people know that. I hope the newspapers will defend themselves against any attempt to control their ability to function as whistleblowers by waging all-out war. They must not let themselves be cowed. The law for them -- laws forbidding hacking, stalking, libel, bribery -- should be no different than than for anyone else, and those laws are already on the books. If they break the law, they should be brought to justice -- if they do not, they should have no quango overseeing what they do. We shall discover during the next year whether the press will try to accommodate the establishment or continue to expose it to scrutiny. I suspect they will be utterly defiant, and will publish more exposés than ever.

Well we already know that the banks are carrying on as if nothing has changed, politicians likewise, so i can't see that the press will respond to their 'disgrace' in any different fashion.
