Fair play to him... I thought he was good, in particular when you consider his age and the week he has had. Looking at how he has been treated this past week... in fact looking at how politicians are treated in general, it is a wonder that they do not despise the public. Look at the public through a politicians eyes and you see the very worst in human nature: a demanding, puerile, greedy, mean spirited hoarde that simply cannot be pleased. The politician's constant attempts to court popularity by pleasing the ungrateful masses remind one a little of the condition of wives suffering from battered women syndrome.
Of course, the relationship between the public and the politician has been damaged by the expenses scandal but that in turn was caused, in part at least, by a public that resents paying MPs at all? It is not just our politics that needs to change to fix this situation, but also, our expectations of what politics can and should deliver...

I enjoyed his performance as I did that of Ann Widdicombe. They had no chance of being the winner but did so for the fun of it. It was a pity that no Labour MP male of female participated.
Strictly Come Dancing was a bit of fun at a dismal time both as regards the weather and economically. Let us enjoy it for what it was worth and not try to read deeper meanings into it.
