Would Osborne have prevented it?

Gordon Brown destroyed Lloyds TSB over coctails. The share holders should sue.

This was entirely manipulated and encouraged by Brown. He even claimed that he had a great personal triumph when this merger came about. He added fresh cream to sour cream and got lots of sour cream. It was all related to the fact that two huge banks that were failing were both Scottish.
Read Lord Turner, previous head of the FSA on this merger - he described it almost as it occurred as a great mistake. He also claimed that Brown and his Treasury team knew the true state of HBOS even as they were egging Sir Victor Blank to jump.

A Brown/Balls/Miliband disaster if ever there was one.

What has Osborne go to do with it?
It was a Labour piece of work from start to finish

Allow? I thought it was forced.

I seem to recall that Brown was the insisting "expert" in this whole sorry and bloody expensive saga.
Did he ever get anything right?

Gordon Brown as usual made a very bad decision for all the wrong reasons.
That merger was an epic failure just in terms of Jobs and competetion alone.
Labour screwed up the Economy and Don't ever forget that or let them forget it.
Gordon Brown has no qualifications in economics or banking just like the Scottish Bankers he knighted.
